When to Introduce Solids
|
Your baby is growing and healthy. You have been doing everything right but are unsure when to introduce solids. If you ask ten different moms they will all give you ten different ages. The reason is that every child is different and every parent does things differently as well. Most experts all agree that you should begin to introduce solids at around age 4 to 6 months.
There are a lot of guidelines out there about what foods babies should and should not eat so be sure to consult with your doctor if you have any questions a bout a food. One good guideline that you should wait at least three days before introducing a new food. What that means is that you should start with lets say peas and serve peas for the next three days then introduce another new food.
Doing this has two purposes, the first and most important being that if your baby is allergic to a food you will notice it if you are serving only that food. Slowly introducing the foods helps you check for allergies which can be common in babies. The second reason to wait three days is to give your baby time to lie the new food. They may spit it out he first day but after the third enjoy it.
