Literacy Ideas Series: Visit bookstores
|
Having lots of books around – both children’s books and adult books – has also been shown to help kids develop an interest in reading.
But even if you can’t afford to buy many new books – take them to a big bookstore now and then. They will see lots of books, of all different types, and people reading and looking at them – people who value books and reading – all experiences that will get them interested and curious about reading.
You might find some good discounted books now and then too!

Yes, parents need to teach children how to treat books and other people’s property. However, I have visited bookstores and the library with multiple children and have found that most children usually treat books with care.
