Paul Ryan and the Pro-Rape Agenda
|
The argument that rape related pregnancies should be exempt from abortion restrictions is both old and well supported. However, many anti-choice lawmakers consider it a slippery slope. Therefore, there must be ways to stop rape victims from seeking abortions. And according to Paul Ryan and his GOP allies, that means supporting rapists.
Paul Ryan has (again!) sponsored the Sanctity of Human Life Act. This is a bill that wold give rapists permission to sue their victims if they get an abortion. It’s the same philosophy as bills that allow rapists to sue for parental rights to their children- forcing their victims to interact with them and relive the worst moments of their lives. It is a rapist empowerment act.
So consider, the best allies of politicians who seek to control women’s bodies are the very people who force themselves on women’s bodies. The only person who can and should control their own body is that person. And if politicians who try to force women to give up control of their bodies have to ally with rapists, we must ask ourselves how far apart those ideals are- the desire to control and the fact of having done so.
Are they really very different at all?
