Fox News and the War on Women
|
Last week, Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson- a longtime friend of Sean Hannity and a regular Tea Party spokesperson- appeared on Hannity’s show. He was asked by female Fox News anchor Kirsten Powers to account for a speech he made two months ago, and she asked Hannity to repudiate it. Hannity refused. What was said in that speech, that could have turned Fox News anchors against each other?
“I think that one of the greatest mistakes America made was to allow women the opportunity to vote… And this probably was the reason they didn’t allow women to vote when men were men. Because men in the good old days understood the nature of the woman.”
He went on to say, ““You walk up to them with a issue, they freak out right away. They go nuts. They get mad. They get upset, just like that. They have no patience because it’s not in their nature. They don’t have love. They don’t have love.”
The same month he made those statements, he also published an article titled, “Men Have the Right To Defend Themselves,” advocating for men to resume their physical dominance over women- physically, as in, with their fists.
This is the radical, anti-woman position that the Tea Party is taking. That women should not vote, should be physically subservient to men, and have no capacity for reason- or even love.
This is the position Fox News has been supporting, but the token women of Fox finally seem to be ready to stand up for themselves.
There is a war on women. And our votes are our strongest weapon. Don’t let them even think of taking that away.
