GOP: Time to Censure Glenn Grothman
|
As the anti-woman and anti-feminist rhetoric heats up in the GOP, there has been some backlash. Ann Romney, taking advantage of her “early birthday gift” by turning an accurate description of her understanding of the economy into an all out “Mommy War” was a perfect indicator- the GOP has a problem with women. They need women to vote for them, but everything they say and do is sexist or worse.
But if they truly want to show women that they aren’t a bunch of misogynistic neanderthals, there is something very simple that the Republican leadership can do. They can begin to single out the lawmakers who are working so hard against women, and publicly castigate them. And they should start with Glenn Grothman.
Grothman is the Wisconsin State Senator behind a bill defining single motherhood as child abuse. He’s behind the bill that would make it impossible to divorce your abusive spouse. And he’s also the man going on talk shows to tell women that they are “ignorant,” because they want to be single mothers, that they are “trained” to tell doctors that they didn’t plan their pregnancies so they can get abortions… the list of his offensive and outrageous comments goes on. And it’s all on tape.
GOP- you want women to vote for you? Start by standing up and calling your own members to stop this. THIS is why there is a perception that the GOP is waging a war on women. Because in nearly every state, at the state level, it is true. So either admit that this what what your party does, or publicly decry these words and actions.
