Transvaginal Double Talk
|
Since the defeat of the transvaginal ultrasound bill in Virginia, Republican legislators in states across the country have been backing away from the procedure. Or so they would have you believe.
In fact, there are many states that are working on passing similar initiatives. And rather than remove the requirement, they are simply changing their language.
Take Idaho, for example. It removed the explicit requirement for a transvaginal ultrasound from the bill. However, they changed some of the language, so that now a woman MUST undergo the ultrasound that an OB would have to use to determine the precise gestational age. Which is to say, a transvaginal ultrasound.
See what they’ve done? They’ve taken out the word that made everybody so upset. But they’ve kept the requirement.
What they don’t care about is that it is the REQUIREMENT that has everyone so upset.
A transvaginal ultrasound by any other name…
We have to stay informed about the policies that govern our bodies. It’s rare that politicians actually come out and say what they mean, and now that they know what words to avoid, they will. But it won’t stop them from literally forcing themselves into women’s vaginae.
Stay alert, women, and don’t let them get away with this.
