Well, Michele Bachmann has done it again. Just when you thought she couldn’t get any more bigoted and crazy, she manages to espouse a view that would cause any rational individual to run away screaming.
She said, “Not all cultures are equal… not all values are equal. Those who are coming into France, which had a beautiful culture, the French culture is actually diminished. It’s going away. And just with the population in France, they are losing Western Europeans, and it’s being taken over by a Muslim ethic. Not that Muslims are bad.”
So now, not all Muslims are bad, but Islam is somehow less than, presumably, Christianity or nationalism. I would ask how long Judaism can stay off the list of “less equal” cultures in that kind of talk wouldn’t lose a candidate the Florida vote outright.
It’s a slippery slope, claiming that one culture is worse than another culture. It’s just one small step away from saying that the people of one culture, or faith, or race, are worse than the people of another culture. And it’s just one small step away from that before those less-than people aren’t even people anymore.
As George Orwell said, “All animals are equal. But some animals are more equal than others.”
